About: Rincon de la Vieja Hike
Experience the beauty of nature with our Rincon de la Vieja Hike in the Guanacaste province of Costa Rica. This hike is an opportunity to explore Costa Rica’s various forests. While Costa Rica is known for its lush rainforests, do you know we also have dry forests? These forests are unique and have their charm. The dry forest surrounding Rincon de la Vieja Volcano is one such forest. This volcano is one of Costa Rica’s six active volcanoes, and it had been silent for ten years before its last eruption on June 28th, 2021.
Rincon de la Vieja, which translates to “The Old Woman’s Corner,” has a legend associated with it. According to the legend, a girl’s lover was thrown into the crater by her father. Heartbroken, she became a recluse and lived on the mountain, where she is said to have had incredible healing powers. This legend adds a certain mystique to the hike. During the hike, you will have the opportunity to see a variety of flora and fauna that call the dry forest home. The forest is home to abundant wildlife, including monkeys, armadillos, and various bird species. The flora is equally diverse, with cacti, orchids, and bromeliad species.
The hike is not only an opportunity to experience the beauty of nature but also a chance to learn about the unique ecosystems that exist in Costa Rica. Our knowledgeable guides will share insights into the area’s ecology and provide an educational experience. Whether you are an experienced hiker or a novice, the Rincon de la Vieja Hike is sure to be a breathtaking adventure that will leave you with a newfound appreciation for the beauty and diversity of nature.
