Join us for a bird-watching tour in Jaco, Costa Rica, and immerse yourself in the world of nature, tropical sun, and prehistoric creatures. This tour is perfect for all nature lovers, families, and individual travelers. The Tarcoles River, located about 30 minutes north of Jaco, is home to the largest population of American crocodiles in Central America, some of which grow to over 18 feet long. You'll have the opportunity to observe a wide variety of birds, including many that migrate every year, as well as resident species such as kingfishers, roseate spoonbills, and crustaceans. The adventure begins with a 15-minute walk to the riverbank, where you can observe howler monkeys, hummingbirds, mangrove hawks, and dozens of crabs. Once on the boat, we'll give a brief safety talk before starting the tour to search for crocodiles. During the boat tour, you'll have an intimate experience with crocodiles, iguanas, fast-running basilisks, raccoons washing freshly caught crabs, and ospreys diving fiercely in search of a good catfish or snook. According to a National Geographic study from 2000, it's estimated that there are 25 crocodiles per square kilometer in the area.

Important information
• We recommend you prepare for the outdoors with comfortable athletic shoes, closed, preferably with non-slip, no sandals. Insect repellent and a raincoat or poncho if you travel in the rainy season.
• Extra cash for tips is always welcomed and very appreciated by the guides and staff.
• Bring your camera! This is an excellent opportunity for some fantastic photographs.

Our tour guide as well as the boat operator were very keen on f8nding and pointing out the inreresting and often hard to spot birds, reptiles, bats and features of the mangroves habitat. The fact that we were the only couple on our tour didn’t curb their enthusiasm in showing and explaining things to us andceven help take pictures for us. Th tour guide also spoke excellent English. This was the most enjoyable tour we had! I only wished I remembered the name of the tour guide to call him out by name…
