Hiking
The trails in Carara are well-maintained and easy to hike. No steep inclines or overly rocky trails make this an excellent option for older or disabled visitors. We recommend scheduling a guide so that you are sure to encounter birds and other wildlife. You will see beautiful plants and flowers, impressive trees, and other tropical rainforest wonders.
Wildlife
There is an abundance of wildlife to see in Carara, including the bright and beautiful Scarlet Macaw. Other animals frequently spotted include capuchin monkeys, poison dart frogs, sloths, and more. If you want to see the raw, wild nature of one of Costa Rica’s most dangerous species, consider booking a nearby crocodile tour after you visit the national park. Carara is located near the Tarcoles River, one of Costa Rica’s largest rivers. Known for its crocodile-infested waters, many tour companies host boat tours to get up close and personal with these giant mammals. Not for the squeamish!
