Let me help you get here quickly by answering some of those questions.
COVID in Costa Rica
Do I need a COVID test to enter Costa Rica?
No, you do not need a test to enter, but you will likely need one to exit depending on your country’s re-entry rules, and these can be booked at various clinics throughout the country.
Do I need COVID-specific insurance to enter Costa Rica?
Yes and no. Suppose you have had all your COVID vaccinations and have proof, then you are not required to have specific insurance. If you are not vaccinated or partially vaccinated, you will need insurance, and you will have to show proof of policy at the airport. An insurance card will not be accepted as you need to demonstrate the exact coverage you have and who has it. You will be able to get a certificate from your insurance agency. Your insurance policy must include $50,000 for hospitalization/medical issues as well as a minimum of $2000 for lodging during your quarantine time.
Do I need to carry my proof of vaccine on me at all times?
It’s not a bad idea. As of January 2022, some places are asking for proof before you can enter the establishment. They are asking for QR codes, but in the case you don’t have one, your vaccine card will be accepted.
Is there anything else I need to do to prepare COVID-related before landing?
Yes! You need to fill out the Health Pass online 48hrs before you are planning to arrive. This can be found at https://salud.go.cr.
Do we have to wear masks in Costa Rica?
Yes! Whenever you are indoors, you are required to wear a mask. You are allowed to remove your mask when eating or drinking and while outside, and this is something the government is very strict about.
Are stores, tour operators, and restaurants open?
Yes! They operate at a limited capacity, but most are open for business. For this reason, Bookybee recommends booking all activities and transportation well ahead of time to avoid disappointment and the stress of trying to book some adventures, and they are already at capacity.
Traveling to Costa Rica
So should you come down? ABSOLUTELY! I know it can seem like a lot but we have to deal with COVID restrictions and rules everywhere so why not get a tan and a margarita on the beach while you do it? It’s difficult to think about COVID when you are ripping through the rainforest on an ATV or dangling from the treetops on a zipline!
